THIS ACTOR
Paul McCarthy (Australia) has become the latest
hot ticket in the comedy world through his work on the new Channel
9 comedy series, Comedy Inc. A master of impersonations,
Paul has taken on the persona of everyone from current affairs
host, Ray Martin to talk show host, Michael Parkinson, to one
of The Wiggles.
I will admit, I'm not a
big fan of the series. The comedy is sometimes a little too base
for my taste, but I keep watching because of the incredibly consistent
and brilliantly funny performances of this very clever actor.
Paul is not a comedian in
the standard sense of the word. He brings a depth to his impersonations
that only comes from an actor's acute observational skills, coupled
with a strong dose of good comedy timing.
I consider him beautiful
because of his commitment to a truthful portrayal of real people,
and because of his vulnerability when playing the more generic
characters. There is an intensity in his interviews that shows
his dedication to his craft, which is evident in his work on
screen. This man is beautiful because he is so very good at what
he does and is always striving to do it better.
